I know that Cingular's previous "World phones" came unlocked, did Cingular continue the trend with their recently released v600?

i just doubt it...i didn't even know the v400 was unlocked....it's typical of the companies to lock the phones...idk though...it's was probably only because it was world capable, which may be the case with the v600 also...

Yes it is. I just purchased one through the company site (I work for Mot), and it specifically states that the phone is NOT locked to Cingular. Seeing how the phones we buy through the company are no different than the ones you would buy through Cingular, I imagine the same goes for all Cingular V600s.

I was just on Cingular's site and I don't see it state that the phone is unlocked.

Please post the link.

Thanks,
TMobile

I'd love to, but the site is Mot internal only... I can take a screen shot of it and email you if you'd like.

No it's ok. I have an unlocked/unbranded one. Use it on Tmobile.

Thanks Anyway.

However if you work for Mot, why does it seem like there are a lot of problems with this phone? B/c it's a new series/launch?

I have 2 of them, I had to send mine in to get the black bezel fixed b/c it was cracking.

Then I had to send my g/f phone out b/c the camera stopped working. What gives?

Not to mention the phones have been in service longer than I've had them.

Probably last Mot I buy.

Enjoy though.

I wish I could give insight on that, but I would be lying to you if I told you I knew any specifics. I don't work in PCS, so I don't know any details regarding phones. Your guess is as good as mine 🙂 Hopefully you just got a couple bad eggs... I've really liked the Mot phones I've owned (although I"m still not a fan of the address book!).

From what I understand, as a policy (this may change) Cingular doesn't lock their world phones. I used to be a Cingular customer and I have spoken to their Customer Service person and she confirmed that. If this is still Cingular's practice, I believe their V600 should be unlocked.

Again, it is just my personal understanding. Someone else may want to check with Cingular to be sure.

I find it hard to believe that if Cingular is helping subsidize the phone, that they would leave the phone unlocked. If they do, where's there a Cingular so I can go buy a phone and use it at TMobile.????

I agree with you that it is hard to believe Cingular doesn't lock their world phones. Although I haven't gotten a world phone from Cingular before, other people seem to be able to get unlocked world phones from Cingular(that's what they posted in this or other forums).

I hope this is true for all carries. After all, we do need to have a contract with the carrier in order to get a subsidized price for the phone.

I also heard that the Consumer Union is lobbing to make laws banning the practices of locking cell phones. It is just hard for consumers to switch carriers after the service contracts have been fulfilled/terminated.
