Motorola XPRT
GSM, Roaming etc
This phone is Sprints version of the Droid Pro. From some brief testing it looks like this phone is NOT SIM locked. It recognizes my TIM (Italy) SIM and my US Tmobile SIM and does not ask for a Subsidy Unlock Code.
That said the phone will not work in the US for GSM voice or DATA. From the Driod Pro forums it appears that the Radio supports all 4 GSM voice bands as well as the same US and World 3G Data bands with the Iphone does. So technically it could be a world wide 3G GSM device, but not 3G on Tmobile US ever. Like the Droid Pro it appears that Motorola has put in firmware that disables the phones ability to connect to US carriers GSM Networks by rejecting their network ID's. So it is firmware restricted to non-us carriers. The radio firmware has to be replaced to enable use on AT&T (Voice &3G) or Tmobile (Voice or EDGE). This has been hacked on some Verizon Droid Pro's so apparently it is intentionally firmware restricted.
I have no way of determining if my XPRT will actually work overseas with a prepaid SIM because the phone will not show any networks in the US, however I suspect it will since the Verizon phones prompt for an unlock when you insert a non- verizon SIM and the XPRT does not. When the Verizon Droid Pro, is unlocked, in the US it seems to do exactly what my phone does now.
