Can you use a data cable to FREE-ly obtain ringtones and games?

😈

I'm somewhat new to cellphones--had a very basic one last year, but I know a lot about computers and have a somewhat old PDA.

Anyhow, so if I find say some decent free ringtones--can I download those and upload them to the phone? Or does Verizon have some sort of block on this?

P.S.
I'm not buying the cable from Verizon--most likely Ebay for cheap. The only thing that would stop me from buying the cable would be the inability to use it for anything useful.

You can use the data cable to upload ringtones/images to your phone. But you need the software to upload it. Then you do not need to go through verizon pix.com and pay .25.

Here is what you need to have/know...
1. Software - I use BREW apploader
2. Need to know what directory do ringtones or images save under. - You can find out by downloading one content from eringers and download through verizon pix.com. Then find the content (Usually contents are saved under the share directory)

Hope this helps

The second part about downloading didn't make any sense.

Are you saying use Verizon's service and download (upload to the phone) something?

Basically, when you have the data cable you can upload the contents (ringtones/images) as many as you want for free and you can also use the data cable as a wireless modem to connect to internet.

When you upload the contents using the data cable, you must place the contents into a folder. The problem is that if you are uploading the content for the first time, you don't know which folder you need to save under.

For this reason, I recommend you purchase the contents via Get it Now, Verizon pix.com, etc. and understand which folder do ringtones and images save under.

Ringers go in the brew/ringer diirectory and images (.bmp 128X128 ) go in the brew/shared directory.

You can create the directories with GAGIN, BitPIM if they don't exist.

Never upload a large image or delete it with GAGIN, BitPIM. always use the phone.
