Samsung SCH-A670
WAV sounds for ring tones
1) Connect a music source to microphone input or line-in on your pc. An ipod or mp3 player works great. You'll probably need a 3.5mm-3.5mm cable from your headphone output to PC input. (Note - be sure to choose the correct source input for your PC, see 2f below)
2) Open Sound Recorder and prep it for recording as follows:
a)Select File/Properties then 'Convert Now' button
b)In 'Sound Selection' window, choose:
Format: PCM
Attributes: 22050kHz,16 Bit,Stereo 86kb/sec
c)Click 'Save As' to save this setting for later use, you can name it anything you want
d)Click 'OK' and 'OK' again to close
e)Select Edit/Audio Properties then under 'Sound Recording' (middle of window) push 'Volume' button.
f)Your available recording inputs to your PC are shown, make sure 'Microphone' is checked if you're using a mic input. If you're using 'Line-In', make sure that's checked.
3) Choose your favorite song and get it keyed up to record.
4) On Sound Recorder application, push the red 'Record' button and immediately play your source music. You should see some amplitude activity on the Sound Recorder display.
5) Push the 'Stop' button when you're ready. While you can record up to 1 minute, Verizon limits you to 30 seconds and 3MB file size.
6) Stop your source music and push the 'Play' button on Sound Recorder to hear what you recorded. If it's longer than 30 seconds, move the cursor to just before the 30 second mark and then select 'Edit/Delete After Current Position' to trim the length to less than 30 seconds.
7) If your recording sounded good on your PC, then save the file to your hard drive. Upload to Verizon's Pix Place and send the file to your phone as a Pix message. Once delivered, save the sound on your phone and select as 'My Melody' for your ringtone.
Notes:
a) You may have to adjust the record level to avoid distortion of the recording. See step 2f above to adjust the record level. Start with mid-level.
b) You may also have to play with the volume level from your source to avoid distortion. e.g. If you're using your headphone output from an ipod, set it to mid-volume. Trial and error will get it nailed.
c) I have yet to find a way to have the a670 adjust the volume of a ringtone. They all come in at the same volume, regardless of the phone's volume setting or how loud they sound on your PC. They will play pretty loud on your phone, but as long as they don't sound distorted on your PC you should be OK.
d) Favorite tone now is 1st 30 seconds of Led Zep's 'Long Black Wavy Hair' !!
