Mine isn't crystal clear with background noise, but it sounds much less digital than the Audiovox 8900 that I exchanged for it. I'm happier with this phone because there is no resonances with higher pitched voices.

if you're (to the thread creator) looking for a clean sounding phone, use the VX6000 or wait for a newer version (hopefully they're similar). The VX6000 is a nice phone, just really crappy case design.
