Samsung SCH-A670

I just got my 670 yesterday. I've been trying to read a text message; but no matter what key I push, only the first half of the message is displayed. What am I doing wrong?

Also, is there a way to get a ringer notification when you have a voice mail or text message? Or an intermittent beep like my old Moto120?
