Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD

About a month ago my system updated. Upon completion I had the phone locking up and simply not functioning properly. The tech at my local VZW shop worked exhaustively to try to figure out the problem and even attempted to hard reset/restore the system/phone to no avail. Finally after going through about a two-hour process the rep on the phone agreed to send a replacement phone. The man who worked on my phone thought possibly the new system update (Kit Kat) simply did not interface and function well with one or some of my apps and thought it could have possibly corrupted the phone, but he wasn't sure. Now every 12 hours the phone asks me to update the system, which I am reluctant to do based on this experience, figuring the phone may again crap out. Has anyone had a same or similar experience, and can anyone tell me if I might be able to update my system without having this issue again? Otherwise I will not update it again. Thanks for any help you folks may be able to offer.
