I just went to check this phone out and planned on getting one, but then I checked out the speakerphone. It doesn’t work until the call is initiateed. Well that’s half the reason I want the speakerphone option so you don’t have to put the phone to your ear until the call is Initiateed.

Not only that, but the quality of the speakerphone is only good up to level three. The two loudest settings sound horrible.

Two annoying things about it (I just looked at one for half an hour...did not buy it). One, you cannot turn off the ridiculous tone it makes when it turns on or off. Two, it does not seem to have "ringer ID" which allows assigning a different tone to certain contacts.

Under contacts->phone# options, you can select the ringer you want for each number.

I just tried out the speakerphone in the car with the radio on and i could hear crystal clear to another verizon caller...

How often do you turn on/off your phone???

Thanks for the ringer id tip.

I listened to the speakerphone in the store and it only sounded good when not on the two highest settings.

The issue is not how many times it gets turned on or off, the issue is that it CANNOT be silenced, EVER, unless they come out with new software. That is stupid. An LG can be silenced, right on the Sounds menu. ALL phones shuld give us that choice.

Regarding the speakerphone... If you dial a number and then press the speakerphone key (instead of the send key) the call will be initiated with the speakerphone on... You can also answer a call with the speakerphone key and it will be answered in speakerphone mode... no need to place the phone to your ear in either case...

Regarding all minor complaints about this phone... FOR $49 IT IS A LOT OF PHONE... If you access the Web at all the main screen is a must have... 240x320 (QVGA)...

I have used the LG 3200 & 4500, the Motorola V60s & V710, and I now have the AV 9900

On a scale of 1 to 10 for their speakerphones they would score as follows:

AV 9900 5
LG 3200 6
LG 4500 7
V710 8
V60s 9

All are quite usable in a quiet environment... The LG 4500 has a unique ability to be used in a very noisy area and yet have the remote party hear the local speaker very well, somehow muting the background noise...

Please note that ALL of these phones have HALF-DUPLEX Speakerphones, not full-duplex...

Just a quick question - is the 9900 full duplex or half duplex? Original speculation before release was half duplex because that is what the 9950 was. If the 9900 is half duplex, is it annoying to carry on a conversation with another person? Might be a make or break for me on this phone, especially since I have a great full duplex SP on my Moto 270c.
