Voice cutting out when speaking on the phone?

I just noticed that when I am talking on the phone while the other person is speaking and if I start to speak, the other person's voice cuts out for a second and comes back on. The mic seems to be very sensitive. Anyone else have this problem? I never had this problem on any other phone I owned.

I believe this is a sin od the digital world, not the phone.

True, well it must have been the area I was in because when I got home, I did not notice it as much.

I've noticed something like this too. I thought it was a squelch like feature for a cell phone. If you listen carefully after you stop talking and the other party stops talking, the speaker goes silent. There isn't the typical cell phone static I'm used to from my last phone, a startac 7868. It seems that the call was dropped, but it is not. I find that I have to start speaking before I can hear anything from the other end. Then occasionally it seems that the other party can't hear the first word or two. As long as there isn't a pause in the conversation, everything is peachy.
Is this what you notice? I'll pay more attention to the matter myself.

Well, the problem I have with mine is when the other party is speaking and I happen to start talking before they are finished, it cuts out a word of theirs and I cannot make out what they say sometimes but I have been noticing that this problem is less obvious in different areas. When I called Verizon tech support, they informed me that it was a sign of the mic starting to go but I found out this not to be the case because when I plug my headset in, it seems to be acting the same way. Like I said, in some areas it isn't as noticeable so it may not be a problem with the phone.

It's the digital environment you are operating in.

Could it be that the speakerphone is half-duplex like a walkie-talkie and not full-duplex like a landline phone? My desk phone is half-duplex, and if I start to talk, it cuts off the other person.
