Text messaging only 48 character limit?

guitarguy

I noticed when typing a text message it only allows a 48 character limit per message. IS this a problem with the phone or the way it was designed or just that Verizon wants to make a few extra pennies so one has to type more than one message? I know it used to be 110 character limit. What has happened??

Nope, on my phone there is a little indicator on the bottom right telling me how many characters I typed and next to it how many I have left and I only have a 48 character limit. How can one phone be different from the next?

When I create a new TXT message, it has 160 on the bottom right of the screen. I guess my phone is unaffected.

I think that "00/48" only refers to the send "to" screen. If you advance to the actual text message screen it says "160".

Yes, I called Verizon and no matter who I speak with they tell me I have a defective phone or that is just the limit that Audiovox gives you on this particular phone because of memory. I asked to be transfered to Audiovox tech support and the rep explained to me and problem solved. No more calls to Verizon from me being they are incompetent!

Mine had a limit of 48 yesterday. I played around with the settings and all of a sudden it was 160. I didn't know what changed it so I went back and redid what I changed. It is still 160! 😕

What did Audiovox tell you to do to get it to 160???

Audiovox said to me never to call VErizon, those incompetent people haha. They told me that when you start a text message its a 48 character limit being able to type to the " TO:" field of whom your sending the message to then after pressing OK, you can type the full 160 character message 🙂

When I call Verizon they tell me that their test model 9900 also gets 48 characters. Then some reps tell me it's a software problem. What's the story?

the 48 character limit is when your entering the number where the text message is going, when you typr your message it gives you the 160 character limit.

Must have been a "glitch" in my phone when it had 48 character limit. It actually WAS the message area I was typing in. All is fine now.
