Motorola V400
Newbie needs software info.
I recently got the Motorola v400 and purchased the wire to connect to my computer. I know I need software, but I have no clue where to get it. I want to find something free if possible. Can someone be nice enough to explain what I need to do and where I need to go?

Nick, I am not a newbie, but need the software for the V400. I have the correct data cable, just need the software. The hp does not down load the pics I need to get off this phone. I have a new phone! Need to get the pics off of the v400 the old one.

Nick, I am also a newbie. I bought the phone new but it doesn't get the bars my "now waterlogged" V551 used to get. I assume it needs a firmware update or something?
Can you explain how to get the update and where to get the cord to connect to a PC?

For those looking for MPT software for their data cable, here you go.
They have the original v1.23, the v2.16 update, and the newer full version 3.11 (haven't tried 3.11 myself).

That's HP's software you dope. Therefore it's not stolen, they're just providing their software for free. What I'm talking about is when someone says, hey, I have a free copy of such and such and will give it to you, so you won't have to pay for it if you were to get it from the owner of the software/file.

Excuse me..."dope"... That is not HP's software, it's Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools, the EXACT same thing that is being distributed here and all over the web. I've downloaded it and installed it on my NON-HP computer and had no problem installing or running it.

Well, being as the company name on the file is Hewlett-Packard and HP owns the copywrite on the file, it may be there file. Also, when you open it, I get a lot of Compaq logos and products all over the place, and, being the HP owns Compaq, that just led me to believe they also owned the file.
In other words, they bought the rights to the file to change and modify it for their own use and distribute it as they feel fit to. Do a bit of research before you start saying it's Motorola's. They may have designed the core to the program, but HP has the right to do what it wants to with THEIR version.

Not saying your point is right, but even if it were, such is life. Get over it and stop being such a little pansy. If you have a moral issue with it, I suggest you don't download the software. The rest of us that dont see it as wrong will continue to do so. Seriously man, there are alot more interesting things to whine about than this. God bless.
