best way to get data cable?

I can get a cheap data cable from ebay, for about $8 including shipping and then use bitpim,qpst and/or whatever other software i can find on the net

i can buy mobile action suite for $30 with cable

i can buy verizon mobile office kit for $30

which option is best?
