Banner on Front LCD screen??

There is an option to put a banner on the front LCD screen, but no banner shows up...what gives? It has the red bar at the top, then it says Verizon Wireless under that, the time under that, and the date at the bottom...where would the banner even fit?

The banner only shows up when you do not have a signal.
