i have no clue wut tri-mode and everything is about...can someone tell me the difference between the 7000 and 7000a and which is better...

tri-mode has the ability to go into analog mode when digital service is not available. So for someone like myself who lives where digital service is only available in about half the state, tri-mode is a requirement. In fact just yesterday I was at the hospital and the phone was on analog roaming. My local Verizon wireless store would only show me the tri-mode phones. When I asked about the other ones on display, the salesperson told me "you don't want to look at those, they don't have analog mode".
Can you buy the VX700A from Verizon?
I recently read somewhere in this forum, that the FCC is planning on banning cell phones from operating on analog. Is this true? Does anyone know.

I haven't read anywhere that VZW is planning to sell the A version. I think its digital only.
I believe the FCC ruled some time ago that all wireless would be digital by a certain date (I think it was 2005 or 2006). You would have to research here, HoFo, or maybe even the FCC web site. But the fact is, analog will be gone in the not too distant future and all carriers are required to switch to digital. Not sure if carriers will let their analog service die and not replace it in the hinterland. That would really suck. 😢
