BMW Bluetooth Issue

Poser

I saw the thread regarding the Acura TL. I have an '03 BMW 530i and although I was able to pair the phone with the car, it does not maintain a connection with the car, it also does not receive calls with any consistency and people on the other end cannot hear me.

I had BMW check it out and their answer was all of our equipment is working properly.

I e-mailed Motorola and they basically said they are fixing the phone book transfer issue but they purportedly were unaware of any issues with BMW bluetooth connectivity.

I was wondering if anyone had any info regarding BMW compatibility problems with the V710; and if so, whether their are any solutions.

A couple of questions
Did you install the kit yourself?
Do you know the part no. of the ULF module? There have been several different revs, and it is claimed that the older versions were buggy (although I am aware of one claim of exactly the opposite-- that the newer versions are buggy).
Where in the car is bluetooth antenna installed? Some have had problems with the antenna located in the trunk.

BMW installed the kit. The antenna is located in the center console, not the trunk.

I bought the kit from BMW maybe 4 months ago. I don't know the part number. When the dealer sold me the kit, he said that they only have 1 complete kit available. Since I purchased it recently, I have to believe that it is a newer version. However, I could be wrong.

I suspect that the problem is with the kit -- either it's defective or was not installed properly.

Unfortunately, the only way that you can verify that it's not the phone is to try another phone, preferably one that's on the list of "supported" phones.

Here is a good list of phones tested with BMW:

Good luck! I am waiting for an install kit that is on back order, then I plan to install the bluetooth kit in my 2002 540.

I appreciate the input, but short of opening a new account with another provider, it will be difficult to confirm that the kit is the source of the problem.

As an alternative, I think I may request that BMW install a new kit at their expense. However, I will wait until the V710 software update is released, whenever that will occur.

If anyone else has any experience or info on BMW bluetooth compatibility issues, your input would be appreciated.

I have had some sync issues but not to the extent that it constantly disconnects. Did you delete all devices and then try to pair the phone?

The Motorola V600, V525, V620, V551 all work fine with fully functional Bluetooth, but those phones are only available through Cingular or Sprint. Verizon does not support them, only the V710.

When I bought the phone, I signed a new 2 year contract, so I will need to either get more official information from Verizon, or return the 3 week old phone and get Verizon to void the new contract.

I really would appreciate any further info. The customer service people at Verizon seem to know nothing helpful at all.

I'm pretty sure the problem is not the phone. You should take the car back and get something else ;-)

I have an '04 325Ci and have similar issues with Bluetooth. I've found that after two days or so, the phone continuously connects and disconnects from the car every few seconds. However, if I turn the phone off and back on, everything works fine again. Give that a shot.

I have the old ULF (first version) and it seems to work fine, except for some really loud speech output. In your case, it almost sounds like the ULF antenna connection might not be intact.

Good luck and I hope you get things working.

I have similar issues and I can assure you that it is the phone and not your car kit. I have an '02 BMW 330i with the BMW BT kit installed. Prior to using the v710, I paired it up with a v600 from AT&T and it worked perfectly in every respect. The only problem I had was that AT&T service/coverage area was nothing short of awful in my area. I had previously used Verizon which has excellent service in my area. I switched back when the v710 became available. After pairing it to my car I have many of the issues that have been reported on this forum in earlier posts:

- It won't transfer the phone book entries to my car for display and scrolling thru.
- About 15-20% of the time, when I get in the car and start it up, the phone doesn't li...

Thank you for your thorough and comprehensive response. Given AT&T's policy, I will buy the phone today and pair it with my car. If it works like you indicated then I will begin my campaign of cajoling Motorola to fix their product so that it works similarly to the V600.

This entire experience has been so frustrating b/c after investing approximately $900 (phone, BT kit and installation) it is so unreliable (not receiving calls, connect/disconnect, no phone book transfer, failure to recognize etc) that I don't even use it.

I will try AT&T, and if it works like it should then I may eat the cancellation fee with Verizon. This would be a shame since I have been with Verizon for a long time and their coverage is typically unbeatable.

I returned my v710 for all the reasons listed 2 posts above. Worked great first time paired, then went into connect/disconect continuously more. On occasion, it would ask for ULF passkey and say it was invalid. Only solution was to drop ULF and phone history and repair from scratch. Then it worked fires time only and ...

Anyway, tried 3 v710's. They all exhibited the same "features". Arrg! Returned phone, reluctant to go to v600 because of poor coverage (AZ).

I hope you can get Motorola to address the v710 BT to be like the v600! I will help.

I have heard that AT&T blows, but I get conflicting reports in So Cal -- LA. I will give it a shot but I am not holding my breath.

Primarily I just want to confirm that the V710 is the source of the problem, so I can tell Motorola that they need to fix their phone.
