USCC Motorola V710 Release Info

RingTone

Sep 23, 2004, 12:55 PM
This morning I received confirmation from an inventory manager that USCC will release the V710 sometime during the month of November. The phone will tentatively sell for $210 on a new 2 year contract or $400 retail.

The phone WILL be fully bluetooth enabled. I was able to toy around with a V710 that the manager brought into my store and non of it's features have been removed.

This phone will also be released at the same time as the Kyocera Koi phone. I did not learn any information on that phones cost however but I did get to hold that model and I was very impressed.

***Release date & cost are of course subject to change***

It is US Cellular. They are another CDMA provider of cell phone service. Here is a link to their web site

Or "get to", if you feel that way about it. Depends on your outlook on life. 😲

It was just a joke..."having to" vs. "getting to" leave Verizon.

Hmm.... 😈 😈

What if one were to buy the v710 and re-program it to work for VZW. Without updating the firmware.

Fully bluetooth enabled, hmm...

I mean the firmware shouldn't be too different except for web settings, get it now, and minor things such as that, and you can flash the VZW prl to it.

I hope this is true, that USCC won't disable it, this will hopefully call VZW's bluff on the Security issue, and allow hackers to study the firmware vs Verizon's.

And if VZW is worried about a "Revenue Leak", they should be worried about people ditching them for this. In my market (Chicago) USCC has overlapping coverage for the most part, and has a plan that will allow you to roam like SingleRate. Albeit I like VZW ...

The information I gathered was that the security issue is virtually non-exsistent. USCC product testers found no reason to disable the bluetooth feature. The only issue that was of consideration is a concern users would use the bluetooth connectivity to provide a wireless modem connection via their service. This would be bad since users would incure a data charge as part of their monthly service.

However it was understood that anyone with the technical understanding to use a bluetooth phone as a wireless modem would also be intelligent to know such activity would be charged.
