Forced to get new v710

Well, two days ago, my v710 fell into a puddle outside and I didn't relaize it fell off my belt until about an hour later. It will still turn on and all the startup / menu sounds are right, but the display is completely fried...black.

For once in my life, I actually opted for the insurance on this thing and I will get it replaced for only $50 deductible. But, of course, the insurance company is back ordered on them so it will probably at least be a week.

I've got two questions:

I was holding out on buying the cable to sync contacts / numbers until the firmware upgrade came out, in hopes I could sync via BT. But, I'd like to be able to put my old stuff into the new phone when it arrives. My question is, if I get the cable, will I ...

they can do PRL updates, and limited stuff (like GIN upgrades) but the real "OS" of the phone is set so that it can't be done OTA, in cas eof signal dropping and/or errors...

earlier posts on this forum said that software upgrades cannot be performed over the "wireless network". you should be able to transfer your data by pressing the key stroke sequence without the screen.

Hmmm...I wasn't aware they would do that for you. I got my phone and accessories from an authorized Verizon store. They're awesome on service there, but I think I may have a little more tech savvy than they do. I assume you mean I'd need to find the closest actual Verizon store.

Good idea. Thanks.
