So I called my local VZW store (NJ) last night and was told "Yes, the new phones are here. Come in and we will swap you out for the camera issue."

So I went to the store, and was promptly told by the tech guys that they were NOT in.

Tech guy went and talked to the store manager to confirm, and the store manager told him that a shipment of new phones came in for NEW SALES, but the shipment for replacements/swaps was NOT IN.

On hearing this I was prepared to pitch a fit with the store manager, but I only got as far as YOUR STORE told me 20 min ago to come here and he decided to give me one of the NEW FOR SALE phones.

Well the new one has a straight camera, and the same software version from the original one. NOTHING else is different.

As other people have said, it seems to take slightly better pictures (brighter) ... however they are still the crappiest cell camera pics I have ever seen. Slightly fuzzy, too much contrast, and wide color saturation across the image. My VX600 with a 300k camera took better pics.

it is crazy because as I posted yesterday, the 1.2 megpix camera on the V3 takes pictures that are sharp, clear, and look GREAT!! You would think they use the same camera hardware across their line of phones ... but I guess not.

VZW told me the replacement phones are refurbs. They just went ahead and let me have one of the new ones since I'd been calling for about two weeks to see if they were in yet! 😛
