Anyone have any information on this car kit? How it works, worth buying, etc....
Here is the link to see what I am talking about.

My last question is: Is it essential to purchase the hangup cup holder for this kit?

I have the Moto car kit installed. It works exactly as billed. The moment you get into the car it pairs with your phone. Obviously the quality of installation (placement of mike, speaker, and small console) will determine your experience. Mine was done professionally and it's fabulous. One quirk, though. When you dial a number once connected (e.g. voice mail codes) it has this annoying double beep acknowledgement over the speaker for every button hit. Occasionally it somehow also automatically lowers the speaker volume which I have to reset. I haven't tried to figure out how to avoid the quirk because it is so overwhelmed by the benefits.

I've had mine installed for about three weeks and it's the best handsfree kit I've owned. Nope, you don't need to hang the phone in a cradle, I leave mine clipped to my belt, so I never have to actually touch the phone (unless I'm calling someone with a touch-tone voice mail "press 1 to be put on hold forever" system. It pairs perfectly with the phone when you start the car, which is great if you're in or near the car. I have a remote start, so the car can't always find the phone when it starts 'cause I'm not there - I have to remember to manually pair them when I do get to the car - which is as simple as press and hold the big blue button.

I have the Moto Car Kit as well, and it was professionally installed in my Acura MDX by Verizon. I could not be happier with it. This was really the reason why I wanted the V710. The Verizon coverage in my area is great so did not want to change subscribers just to get Bluetooth. But this was worth waiting for. If you use your phone in your car a lot, you're going to love it.

I've been using that Bluetooth hands free kit for over 2 months. It works great.

On the hang-up cup, you don't need it--but I'd like to have one as an option. Most of the time the hang-up cup is unimportant to me and I keep the phone on my belt (with ObeyMoto voice dialing, I rarely touch the phone while in the car.) But I still have my external antenna and want to have the hang-up cup for those instances where the antenna would help or the phone needs charging. My installer was going to rig something up--but getting the power might be difficult since the Bluetooth kit doesn't have a power output for the hang-up cup. The installer was planning to use a cig charger (hidden behind the dash) to provide power. I'm still wondering though...

I just installed a handsfree system in my car this week. I opted out of using the Motorola one since it uses that speaker which I didn't want to bother mounting. I ended up getting the Parrot CK3000 bluetooth module along with a Mute Lead from Qubit for my car (and an adapter cable to connect the two). Now when I get in my car it connects to the Parrot as soon as I turn my car on. Then it takes control of what ever is playing on the stereo at the time and puts the phone call over the speakers. Fantastic.

Although some members have already given excellent answers to your question I will throw my two cents in.

The Motorola Bluetooth Car kit (BTCK) is a good product. The hang-up cup that you are talking about is intended for use with the Professional Install Car kit like this one

that actually plugs into your phone. The car kit is hardwired into your car's DC power the same as the BTCK. From the junction box you have one cable that you can plug into your phone or into the hang-up cup. If you use the hang-up cup you can then set your phone into that when you get into your car...
