Which firmware version is best to flash?

OK, now we have two firmware choices for the V710, either:

8700_1.02.SD - the custom version developed by SuperDave, or
8700_01.40.OR - the Verizon firmware which is being released by a few stores for testing.

The Verizon firmware stops transfers of ringtones (not pictures or video) from the TF card. The SuperDave firmware has some custom graphics.

Both versions appear to have the same Bluetooth and camera resolution fixes. The battery drain problem seems to be with both versions too.

Can anyone expand on why you would risk hosing the phone with custom software for the sake of custom ringtones and graphics? If you fry the phone with the SD version and can't recover, at least you can take it back to the store with fewer questi...

I would say I did it cause the bluetooth sync with the computer and the added functionality for my car (some BMW and Acura owners couldn't use the phone in those cars at all till this update) is why I did it.

Yes there are risks and there is the "if it ain't broke don't fix it". This is not an update for everyone, just people who want the new features or had problems with the phone as is. I also like to keep the ringtone transfer and as of now, as long as the battery thing isn't as wide spread as some might say (so far, mine is just fine) the SD build has everything I want from the phone.

So if you want to flash it and get the new functionality but not risk Verizon seeing you have the "hacked firmware" and you don't care about tran...

Remove the ability to copy/move audio files from the transflash to the phone

Since I have to wait until May for my upgrade discount, I have time for this to be reversed due to popular demand, but where does one demand it be reversed?

Stuff I own, which I paid for, should be transferable from my computer to my phone in any way I choose to do it...

Since it looks like Verizon is bailing out on the "official" flash firmware upgrade, 8700_01.40.OR is the most current version available.

You can either try the flash youself, or FEDEX your phone to the Texas store for the upgrade which is what I did.

I purchased a 2004 BMW 330CI that came with BMW assist. I wanted the BMW bluetooth. BMW does not support BMW Bluetooth and BMW assist in model years 2004 and earlier. I found out they tell you it cannot be done because they would rather you pay a yearly subscription for BMW assit then disconnect it since they both cannot be in the car at the same time. From the forums I found out that it easy to install BMW Bluetooth in a car that has BMW assist so I ordered the kit and installed it (yes it was pretty easy). The first kit I ordered was form advancedautovations (formaly BMW bluetooth) but I must tell you it was a horror story! They (auotvations) did not return my phone calls for a very very long time or answer my 30+ emails. Ordering from Mar...

All the features with my BMW Bluetooth and V710 Motorola are working... I should be able to transfer my phonebook after this hack. Does anyone know why all other features with my BMW Bluetooth system would work but not the phonebook in the cars Bluetooth system?

I have recently read that I should hack my phones firmware with the 8700_01.40.OR firmware instead of the firmware I used from the X5 site but cannot anyone tell me if this is the real fix? And if it is where can I find this firmware with step by step instructions to load it into my phone?

It’s almost as though the V710 phone will not transfer its phonebook data to the car but the car is capable of communicating with the phone (one way co

Are you telling me that 8700_01.40.OR will allow transfer of my Motorola V710 phone book to my BMW bluetooth and 8700_1.02.SD does not?

If that is the case what is the exact URL I need to go to to download this version?

If that is not the case and i should be able to upload my phonebook using the version I have then how do I get the phonebook to be uploaded?

-thanks

Steve

No. Either flash works with BMW. You can use this link to learn how:

maybe I am not explaining my situation clearly...

I have already flashed my motorola V710 phone with 8700_1.02.SD and it works with everything except it will not allow me upload my phonebook.

When I press and hold the person speaking button on the steering wheel the stereo beeps like it should then I press the up arrow button on the steering wheel and the stereo displays "please wait". it stays like this for-ever...(or at least I tried waiting 15 minutes with no success). I guess the bluetooth system in the car is waiting to get the phone numbers from the phone but I do not think my Verizon motorola V710 that has been hacked wth program 8700_1.02.SD is transferring the phone book to the car bluetooth system... in fact I know it is not ...

OK, I understand. Before you reflash, try deleting the phone from the list of paired devices and reboot the car. If you have an I-Drive, press [mute, eject CD, eject DVD] all at the same time, otherwise, just cycle the ignition key.

Next pair the car with the Motorola Phone again and be patient. My A-Z list did not show up for an hour, where the V3 RAZR takes about 20 seconds. The V710 only has Object Push, whereas the V3 also has OBEX.

If you want to try the Verizon Beta flash, it is here:

Correction, testing in from HoFo:

"Well without a doubt the 1.40OR firmware has increased my battery back to what I was used to. I have just a litlle over 2 hours of talk time all on the BT headset, and I still have 2 bars on the main display or 4 bars on the battery meter. I am very happy. Now all we need to do is get back web sessions and ring tone transfer and I will be ecstatic."
