PROBLEMS WITH PST 7.1.1

Motorola MicroTac Lite

Dec 27, 2004, 7:15 PM
AFTER EXTRACTING AND INSTALLING PST 7.1.1 IS ANYONE ELSE GETTING ERROR MESSAGES THAT INCLUDE:

Q814560 - SETUP HAS DETECTED THAT THE SERVICE PACK VERSION OF THE SYSTEM INSTALLED IS NEWER THAN THE UPDATE YOU ARE APPLYING TO IT. YOU CAN ONLY INSTALL THIS UPDATE ON A COMPUTER WITH NO SERVICE PACKS INSTALLED.

AND

Q816843 - YOU CAN ONLY INSTALL THIS UPDATE ON SERVICE PACK 1.

I CONTINUED ON FIGURING THAT MY SYSTEM WAS "MORE" UPDATED... HOWEVER, WHEN I CONNECT MY PHONE I AM UNABLE TO INSTALL DRIVERS FOR IT B/C THE COMPUTER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT. HELP ANYONE? THANK YOU.

I got same error and am also running XP Pro SP-2. I went back to the device manger and then manually told windows to find the drivers in the PST folder. Worked like a charm.

Good Luck.

guys - its still not working for me - i even went to the extent of uninstalling sp2 - for some reason when installing the drivers my computer does not pick up any from the PST folder. i have installed everything from pst, the pst patch, pst flash, mpt, and even the "usb driver" that is hosted on vzw.homeunix.com.

wabmorgan - do you know which files your computer specifically picked up on? i dont know what is going on w/ mine - its almost as if im missing the proper driver files, but i dont believe i am (ive reinstalled multiple times) thank you.

What wabmorgan was saying is that windows found new hardware and couldn't find the drivers associated with it. So at the found new hardware dialog, he changed it from "Let Windows Automatically Search" to "Let me specify the path". Then you can tell Windows to look in the C:\Program Files\PST\ folder for the correct .inf files. It should automatically install once you point it to the main PST folder. I personally had to have Windows do this 4 times (4 diffrent things to install)

I have XP2 on XP home. I ignored the two messages and everything worked fine. The driver problem is referred to in other messages where you have to point the installer to the PST folder where all the necessary drivers were extracted to.
