We all went though with this a while ago.... the gmail invite. It created a bunch of me too me too posts which got some members kind of annoyed.
If you want to do gmail invites and such there is a forum all dedicated to them here:

And I would recommend that no one would ever sign up for one of those free ipod or free whatever sites.
