Verizon Location Based Services

I'm not sure how many of you are aware that the V710 has a built-in GPS receiver. This receiver and the gpsOne service Verizon is bringing online will make the V710 a very useful product. I recently participated in a Verizon trial evaluating several location based applications using the V710 as a terminal for receiving driving directions and tracking another location-aware cell phone. Very interesting stuff!

In the trial, I was able to use two driving directions applications, Telenav from Televigation, and AtlasBook from Networks in Motion, and a cell phone tracking application, Cearch from NorBelle. The Telenav application is already available for Nextel phones for about $10/mon.

While Verizon didn't say when they would make these...

could yuo give us feedback about the Apps? Did you like them? Pricing? etc...

FYI, all new Verizon phones have build-in GPS function, from about 2nd half 2004. Difference is if Verzion is willing to release apps...

Actually, these phones support aGPS, which means they need to be within range of a cell tower with the appropriate hardware to compute the location of the phone.

Only BREW capable phones (those with Verizon's Get It Now feature) will be able to support LBS apps. Phones with aGPS but without BREW can only report their location to 911 services.
