You can't get rid of the stupid pictures... they're in ROM, I think. You CAN use mp3s as ringtones. Format your tf card (if it's not already), put it in the reader, and drop your mp3 files in the following directory:

E:\motorola\shared\sounds

Put the card back in your phone (with the power off). Open the sounds menu, find your mp3 file, hit the menu button, select APPLY AS, select ringtone. Easy!

I am writing this off the top of my head.....

No problem.
I didn't see it in the book either... just went poking around with windows explorer. You can get/put pictures the same way. They're in \motorola\shared\pictures (or is it images?)

Here are a couple of tips, shorten your ringtones so that they are not full lenght songs (do a search on the forum to find out more). Once you have the ringtones in the TF card and the TF card in the phone select the ringtones you want (press "0") and copy or move to the phone.

Sometimes after they are moved to the phone you have to do an "apply as" to have them work as ringtones.

How weird -- when you use the phone to format the tf card, it does not create all the directories!
It does in fact have to be:

/motorola/shared/sounds

I just did this: I formatted a card, used Windows explorer to create the ../sounds directory, put a 2.25 megabyte .mp3 file in there, and voila! Go to media/sounds, hit the menu key and select Change storage device. Select TRI-mmc (the card) and your ringtone should be there. Select it, hit the menu key, and select...
