Dummy question: How do I make my favorite mp3 into ringtone?

Stupid question but can somebody give me a step by step instruction on how to make mp3 into ringtone?

I've installed USB driver for the moto v710; I've installed the mobile phone tool v3.11h; what else do I need to do?

Thanks a lot!

To the best of my knowledge, you can't do it via Mobile Phone Tools. I've never tried it (yet), but that's what I've been told. You CAN do it with the transflash card, though. Connect the tf card to your pc and copy your .mp3 into /motorola/shared/sounds on the tf card.
Search this forum for mp3 ringtone and you'll find specific step-by-step instructions.

I use Motorola Phone Tools version 3 to transfer my shortened mp3 to my V710. You can change the length of your mp3 to about 30 seconds with this program. Just right for a ringtone. However, it does transfer your ringtone to the phone itself and not the transflash card. I haven't tried moving it to the card. I'm with US Cellular. Not sure if that makes a difference.

To the best of my knowledge (again, I haven't tried this), Verizon has disabled the ability to use phone tools. I intend to try it (I bought MPT v3) but haven't yet.

Ahhhh... evil Verizon, what's the point to disable this! 😡

Do I have to have a card reader or something to read the content of the tf card? If so do I need a specific type of card reader? Any hint would be appreciated... thanks!

Yes, one that can handle SD (Secure Digital) cards. Pretty much all of them can do that. Your tf card should have come with an SD adapter, then that plugs into the SD slot in the reader.
Mine is really funky -- the tf plugs into an SD adapter, which then plugs into a CF (compact flash) adapter, which then plugs into a CF reader.

I found this review of v710: http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Page=2&I d=881

This guy said when he copied something onto the TF card it just got messed up, unreadable to the phone. And it happened twice.

Has this ever happen to u? I guess Im just too cautious before spending my dough... 😁

I've never had any problem. You have to handle it carefully -- the tf card is kinda fragile. Also turn the phone off before inserting/removing the tf card. Some say that's not necessary, but I do it anyway, and like I said, I've never had any problem.
