Text message, external screen

Does anyone know if its possible to read text messages on the external lcd screen without opening the phone the way you could on the old motorola v60's? I know you can get to your missed call list but it'd be really cool if you can read texts on the outside. Thanks!

I haven't figured out how to, which is a shame since my old V60 was able to do it with its one line external display.
