So what's the vote? VZW flash update or not?

I went to the VZW store where I bought my 710. Tech said they are doing the flashes but was very up front and told me I would loose the TF ability to move audio, just like we know.

He made a bit of a face and said it was a decision by VZW to disable it and when I mentioned the GIN motivation I could see he was in agreement that it was a lousy move but he was being cool - all in all , a pretty knowledgable and ok guy.

I've read about getting the TF's ability back by altering the seem here, so I'm trying to decide whether to update or not.

I want my phone to ring when using my HS820 and, as an audio engineer and musician, I make my own ringtones so I want a 256 MB TF card to transfer my own stuff back and forth for ringtones.

I have a 710 with the original firmware, bought in August of 04. I also have an HS 820 headset. My only problem is that my phone doesn't ring when the 820 is active.

I had the low volume problem which I fixed a bit with the opcode hack. I want to pick up a 256 TF to load my own ringtones so while I'd like the fixes from the .40 update, I dont want VZW removing the TF's ability to transfer audio files.

I'm asking if people who have updated and altered the seem which reverses the VZW crippling of the TF are happy with the firmware update and if they feel the seem alteration is easy to perform.

Also, what are the warranty issues if you alter the seem.

Any tampering voids your warranty. Unless you can reset it back to factory defaults before making a claim. I don't see the whole point it's like your damned if you do and damned if you don't with the 710. Firmware updates are supposed to improve the functionality of the phone not destroy it. Geez I feel real bad for all the people who have to go through all this aggravation for nothing. Owning the V710 is like being in a bad relationship, get rid of it and find another phone. But then again, some people like to be in bad relationships.

Yup, IMHO VZW suks bigtime for nickle and diming us. They can choke before I use GIN. I wil probably do the upgrade and the seem fix. I just have to take the time to learn how.

There is no other BT phone from them and I want the BT headset so I'm not interested in anything else. The phone is a great phone, for phone use, best I've ever used and I get reception in places where other people can't, even using the BT headset and voice activation, which is great.

Speaker is great too. At this point, after the initial problems which were Moto's fault, it's on VZW now, not really the phone.

I don't see VZW doing any different in the near future no matter what phone you have.

I agree completely I never downloaded a GIN application unless it was a free demo and I have had GIN for almost 3 years. Verizon and it's employees can kiss my ^%$ A great advantage that the 8000 has over the 710 is that you can connect a laptop and use it at evdo speeds. 😁

As a long time Verizon customer, I find their recent policies and tactics to be arrogant and reprehensible.

I can't wait to move my friends and family to another carrier but as I eliminate the alternate carriers due to signal coverage, I'm left with the chilling conclusion that Verizon may be the only game in (my) town and I think they know it...

I'm in the same boat, unfortunately. You know, I really like my 710 and don't mind the $150. I spent for it. I didn't expect OBEX, although that would have been great.

I do expect my phone to ring if I'm using my headset cause I'm not gonna walk around looking like some dork from Star Trek waiting for a call to come in on the HS 820 and where...

Well I understand about the card issue but would I still be able to send ring tones through email? They didn't know at my verizon store.
