Motorola V710
Where is the Firmware.
Has anyone on the east coast gotten their firmware flashed at a VZW store? I called my store today, but the techs said they did not have it yet. I'm in Eatontown, New Jersey.
They also have no idea when they will get it.

They are doing it in the Menlo Park Mall VZW store, in Edison. Takes 25-40 minutes.

Do they backup/restore any of your content for you?
I have MPT so I can do that myself .. was just curious if that was part of the 25 - 40 min.

Well I had it done last night at Menlo Park where Captmas had it done.
I asked them over the phone ... does this wipe out my contacts and data? They said yes.
I asked do you backup and restore the phone data? They said NO.
I have MPT so I didn't need them to restore my data. So I go and they say it will take 45 min to do. So I drop it off and return in 45 min. It still is not done. So another 15 min later they handed me back my phone and ... all my settings, and contacts were still intact on the phone.

I haven't had mine done yet but I was told that they would not destroy contacts when I asked. I thought they dl'd them and put them back after the update.

I just got flashed in long island, phone works much better, camera etc, you still can transfer ringtones from the card by sending it has a message to yourself then cancel it and its now in your outbox and ready to be saved in the phone. transfer all my ringtones this way.

In low light / night pics or just overall in general?
Thanks for the tip for transferring ring tones, that was the main reason I didnt want to flash my phone in the first place.

Why don't you start a new thread with this info (since you discovered it) so everyone will know? I just tried this method on my unflashed phone and it worked with one exception--I had to start to send the ringer message and stop it with the end (hang-up) key to get it in my outbox. The message was marked "unable to send" and I was able to download the ringer with no problems. Anyone else tried it with the new VZW firmware? Looks like this may be the perfect work around as long as VZW is not hitting us for ATTEMPTING to send a message!

I just live north of Boston and most of the Verizon dealers are doing it. Only thing, I have a friend that is a technician for Verizon and he says that it does disable the transflash card to transfer pictures. He also showed me on his computer in the store what the new firmware does. It claims it only helps the Get It Now feature and it also helps the battery life. I have an extra capacity battery and I'm afraid of flashing my phone. My friend suggested if it's not broken don't fix it. I'm not going to take the chance and have Verizon do this. If anyone has success stories please respond with them.

many of the stores dont know exactly what the new firmware does, i was told first that it completely disable the flash card , i checked with verizon and they informed me of all the changes, also they call the store and inform them about the firmware. i am very satisfied with the firmware.
