I got the new firmware

I just got it, takes like 20 minutes as people mentioned already.

contacts, photos, ringers (yes .mp3 ringers) were all saved and exist on my phone still (I remember someone claiming they had a problem with that).

Anyways, start up/turn off screen is new, few new wallpapers, and the camera DOES look better. When i got into the parking garage at my mall i opened it immediately and took some pictures...and it held up ok in the low lit area.

with this new exposed technique for getting .mp3s to your phone via transflash card...I dont see any reason not to get the firmware update.

just figured Id share

While the technique for getting your tones from TF to the phone works ... consider this ...

Everyone is saying remailing your ringtones to your phone costs .25 a per message. Just attach a ton of ringtones in ONE message.

I don't know what the size limit per pix message is but I sent 10+ ringtones (250KB) in one message to my phone last night.

Little quicker than all that creating a message and sending it to yourself bit.

thats a good idea, sending multiple files over in 1 message, but I think the trick was to cancel it right before it sends so you dont get charged with the $.25.

either way, thats fine by me. Im glad i got the flash update.

Are you talking about sending it to vzwpix.com through email? I sent midi files to my phone and some worked and some didn't Where as all the midi files worked on my other model phone. I wonder why I had problems on my v710 with midi files IF you cancel right before it sends that does not make a difference. Verizon charges the 25 cents if the message downloads from their server on to your phone.

I think what they were saying is sending a text message to yourself...not even bothering with vwpix.com or whatever. you just send it to yourself, but before it goes through, cancel it (this way the the txt message and music files are in your Outbox). From your Outbox you can save them to your phone.

Apparently all the flash did was remove the "Move" option you need to transfer the file from your transflash to your phone (in order to make it a ringtone).

I havent tried it yet (still at work) but I will try later. many people said it worked so I took their word for it

haha, you can send txt messages through your phone...you dont need no stinkin' site! ;)

Menu ->
Messaging ->
Create Message ->
New TXT Message ->
Enter YOUR # ->
Insert ->
Sound ->
find file that is on your transflash attach it ->
send ->
cancel as it is sending ->
check your outbox ->
try to save the attached file (sound file) to your phone

again, I havent done it yet, but thats what Id try based on what Ive read.

hope that helps

Oh I get it. Now I understand thanks a lot. I was reluctant to upgrade to the new firmware because I wanted the option if being able to use the transflash card to upload ringtones but if I can do what your saying, then I will update to the new firmware.
