i was wondering what is better, buying from an actual shop, say verizon, or online? its my first time wanting to buy a "new" phone, so I want to get the best deal whether i get the a840 or the v710. thanks for your input!

It is a toss up. It is good to go into an actual store so you can play with the phone and ask any questions to the sales people. But if I were you, I would purchase the phone off of Verizon's website because you get the additional rebate for shopping on the website. The website has the V710 for $250 on a two year contract. It is probably more in the store because they are giving you the additional $50 instant online rebate. If you are eligible for the $100 from the New Every Two Program and the phone you want is $100 online but $150 in the store, the phone would be free online and you don't have to pay shipping if they still have that deal going on.
