why a decrease in price

Does anyone know why Verizon would drop the price of this phone $150 in one day? Does this mean they are expecting the E815 to come out shortly or are they just trying to get rid of the phone?

🙂
I was going to get this phone but never did, I got close to just saying Puck it and just get one, but thank god I waited 99$ for this is nice, opposed to spending a whopping 250 like so many others did. However, this phone is 1xRTT not EVDO, so the E815 thats coming out will be like this one, only with most of the design flaws and software bugs worked out. (hopefully) and the EVDO means internet use or uploading pics will fly, I used the internet on a vx8000 and evdo is fast as balls.
But at 99$ for a 2 year contract for this is nice, and very, very tempting.
But thank god I never bit the bullet back during last summer and spent the 400+ dollars on a phone that is now,... old !
Hmmm, decisions decisions !!
EVDO on the E815
or enjoy...

The E815 and VX 8100 sound good in every way but one. Unlike the V710, they are not trimode. I wonder whether any manufacturer intends to produce a trimode phone having those same features.

It would then have to be Quad Mode, not Tri Mode. The reason the EVDO phones are all digital is because they had to dedicate the AMPS band that was in prior phones to EVDO.

In that case, I'll be skipping the EVDO. It's more important to me that I have a phone that works even in analog areas.

VZW's Analog network is shrinking day by day. They are converting it over to digital, or letting the Roaming agreements expire without renewing them. I wouldn't be surprised if, by the end of 2006 (if not sooner), VZW didn't have any more analog coverage anywhere on their network.

The coverage maps are still showing significant analog areas, and I am aware of other analog areas where I travel that do not appear to be analog on the coverage maps. I have heard for a while now that Verizon intends to rid itself of its analog roaming agreements, and even that doing so is mandated by the FCC. Nobody seems positive, though, as to the outside date by which this will be accomplished. When it does happen, that will be the time for me to purchase an all digital phone. In the meantime, having the analog coverage provides me with a modicum of peace of mind.

Enjoy having your piece of mind. While you have that, I will be enjoying ALL of the wonderful things that my phone does that I cannot have on a Tri-mode phone.

I have had an all digital phone for a few months now, and I have not had 1 problem with reception. But if you live in extreme rural areas, I can see where you may have a problem.

I live in a city, but when I travel no farther than 15 miles, I hit analog areas. Believe me, I'd rather have a phone with the features you're speaking of, but I just am not comfortable giving up analog capability when my service kicks into analog so close to home.
