Hi,

I just ordered a V710 from Verizon and was pleasantly surprised to get it for free on the new every two plan.

I want to be able to connect the phone to my PC to update the phone book, ring tones, pictures, etc; but I am not sure what kit to get. I have seen several different kits advertised on the Internet. I was a little surprised to see that Verizon doesn't offer one on there web site. Can someone help me out?

What kit offers the most features?
Where should I get it?
How much should I expect to pay?

Thanks,
GL

You can buy a cable and use Motorola Phone Tools to update and backup your phone book. But Ring Tones and Pictures are another story. Verizon limits the ability to move ring tones and pictures from your PC to the phone, as they want you to use their "Get it Now" services instead. I bought a Trans Flash Card and adapter for $40 and do it that way. My phone has the older firmware in it and it works great. I take pictures and even videos and move them to the TF card, then use the TF card in it's holder to transfer them to my PC for emailing.

But from what I've been reading here, is that the latest firmware updates remove the MOVE function on your new phone and you can no longer use it as I just explained, without some hacking.

I think the...

Verizon's office kit has better functioning for the phone book (phonebook & modem use only), Motorola's phone tools, has capability to sync with Outlook, & Outlook Express (Deluxe Version) for Calander, & suppossedely for the phonebook also (I havn't been able to get that part to sync). As for Ringtones, pictures, or anything else Verizon has these functions disabled to force use of their "Get it Now" program for ringtones or music. Photo's & video's can be transfered with the use of a "TransFlash" or "Micro SD" flash memory cards. Current max size is 256mb. I highly recommend the memory card in 256mb size as this has proven very usefull. I hope this helps you out.
