I currently have a 2-year contract with verizon. I want to buy a v710 on ebay, but am unsure if it is possible to use the v710 in place of my old phone. Do I let verizon do it or can I just switch the sim card?

You can get on the verizon wireless website and, if you have the esn of the phone (under the battery) you can switch the phone to your number there.
