Voice dialing

I understand you don't have to train the phone to your voice, but then how does voice dialing index into a specific entry in the phonebook.

I'm talking about dialing by name and not speed dial position.

So say "George Bush" is on button 213, how can I use voice dial to access that entry using the name. On my v120c I recorded a voice entry that corresponded to that position.

How does it work on the v710?

Speaker Independent Voice Dialing leverages speech recognition software to decipher the speaker's voice and convert it into interpretable characters which the phone uses to look up a name.

In the past - the "dumb" phones (speaker DEpendent) used to use an exact match of the speaker's voice to a pre-recorded entry. The phone never knew the characters you were saying - it just tried it's best to match the sound of the voice to anything previously recorded - without ever knowing what "letters" the user was speaking. This is why the owner of the phone (or someone who sounded like him/her) was usually the only person able to utilize the feature - because it was their voice the phone was trying to match to the pre-recorded entry.

Some of the samsung for sprint (VGA 1000 in peticular) have this feature, it is very very cool. Works almost all the time, just have to curb your local accent (me being norther NJ i just have to learn to talk SLOWER, bostonians....god help you)

I went to school with some guys from boston, damn they have creative vocabularies and dialects! Good guys though.
