My Experience one Afternoon at a Verizon Wireless Store

I just returned from my local VZW store. As some of you may know, I was the dramatic person on the board a few weeks ago who lost his cell phone outside and it was ruined by rain.

Well, I got a loaner from one of my coworkers, and for the past few weeks I've been working seven days a week from 8:AM - 9😛M. Today's been my first day off in a long time.

So I had the opportunity to go to VZW and activate the loaner until the beloved V710 came out.

Here's the conversation I had with tech support while I was in VZW

Me: When is the Motorola V710 coming out, that's what I'm really waiting for!?!?

Tech: (Smile) Towards the latter part of the year. That all I can say.

Me: Really! Wow!

That's the conversation I had. I hones...

Thats what I've been told mid to late June. I would think it wouldn't be too much later considering the advertising they have done with the movie and in magazines. But you never know. Your right that if we wait to much longer another company will have something so much better on the horizon.

What Martha said about VZW not knowing much more then we do could be right. Although, I don't believe that. I spoke to a CS Rep a few weeks ago and she bluntly told me that VZW employees are not to tell any customers anything about release dates or upcoming products in that fashion because they want to avoid getting customers' hopes up and getting them upset when the products aren't released as planned.

There's that, and there is also probably an issue of inventory that needs to be sold through before they will release new phones. For all anyone knows, the V710 is sitting in a warehouse somewhere until someone at Verizon decides they no longer have too many <insert other phone here> sitting on store shelves. Verizon Wireless has been advertising *massively* online lately, with deals like ...

Hi Everyone,

After being discouraged from what VZW told me I went to Motorola for the assistance. Here's what Motorola emailed me...

Subject
Do you have any information regarding the release date for the Motorola V710?...

Dear Mr. Jonathan DiPietro,

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be of service to you.

Regarding your question the V710 will be release during June through Verizon. You can be one of the first 710 people to register your purchase of the V710 when it launches, and you will get a free Bluetooth® accessory to go along with a handset that exceeds all your expectations. The Motorola V710 features everything to excite the most frenzied ...

my $0.02.

I was telling a friend of mine that I have been waiting on this phone. He asked which carrier, I told him Verizon. He said that a former co-worker of his is the manager of the local verizon store (not kiosk) and that he could at least ask if i wanted him too (duh). Well, we went up to the store and inquired. THe manager said that they dont know models of phones till right before they come out. He said that they only know brands of phones that are coming out further out than a few weeks. He said that they dont show any motorolas for June. He said they he has one motorola phone coming out in July (As well as four other phones, 2 from one brand, samsung i think, and 2 from another which i cant remember). He said that a phon...

Confirmed . . .

The VZW Stores are generally ignorant to new phones coming through the door. The "few weeks" lead time listed above is correct.

For the real scoop, it is your VZW Customer Services Reps (*611) that have the inside scoop on what is coming down the pike, what is being pulled, and what is happening.

The catch is getting one of them to spill the beans about something to which they have most likely signed or agreed to a NDA (non-disclosure agreement).

With that said, watch eBay. There are some reps who will order new phones due for release only to put them up on eBay (as they receive phones at a significant discount). Accessories (headsets, etc.) if I recall correctly, are 50% to VZW employees.

Just my 2 cents worth...

I hope you all know that I have been the harshest critic of BS emails on this forum. That being said, that one is real. I received the same email. Looks like there is a more definitive time frame. 30 days at the most. Have fun all!
