Stopped by Radio Shack...

Hey,
I stopped by Radio Shack today and asked about the V710 and where did the salesman go for info?! Phonescoop.com! That shows that atleast the Radio Shack people don't know **** about it's release date...

Anyway, he told me that Radio Shack does there on testing aside from what Motorola does, can anyone shed some light on this? It sounded pretty stupid to me.

Geez, don't be too hard on the RadioShack people (not that I'm a big RadioShack fan)... I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a Verizon kiosk in a local mall, inquiring about news on upcoming phones, only to hear them advise me to check Phonescoop. I think one could almost bank on the supposition that very few people (if any) at any given time at a Verizon retail establishment have any more of a clue about this stuff than the rest of the Phonescoop readers. Among those very few people are probably each retail outlet's store manager, and they only know when they receive the pre-release paperwork for phones about to be released and that paperwork arrives only a couple weeks before the phones become generally available.

We suggest checking Phonescoop due to the fact that as a VZW employee we are not allowed to discuss release dates or details on new equipment. Too many factors play into us actually receiving the equipment and being able to sell it. I have seen equipment make it to our inventory shelves only to be pulled and sent back to the manu without ever have being sold. Or we will get all the launch info and then never receive the equipment. We will give a general statement along the lines of "we are always receiving new equipment"

...but this Radio Shack employee didn't even suggest that I check Phonescoop.com out, I saw him go behind the sales counter and check the website himself, lol. I didn't want...

You're right about it sounding stupid..... it's complete BS. Trust me. Also, RadioShack employees will be the last to know when the V710 is coming out.... phones just show up there, very little advance notice. Furthermore, RadioShack will probably be the last place to get this phone because (here's a little secret for you) RadioShack buys their phones from Verizon, not from the manufacturers. That means guess who will be getting the first shipments of them..... the Verizon stores. Anyway, just thought I would clear that up for you.

Yes us RadioShack people are sometimes very clueless, you just have to hope you get a guy like me that stays in contact with the manufacturer liasons. I was the...

Yeah i work at the Shack aslo. It usually takes about 2-4 weeks for us to get new released phones. For example, we JUST YESTERDAY got the LG 3200 instock. How pathetic is that?

Will, you ever hear any talk of the Shack bringing back their annual printed catalog...even if we have to pay for it?

I miss that thing alot! Since it typically arrived at the end of August, it made the end of summer much more tolerable. It was kind of like an early Christmas present for us geeks.

Don't get your hopes up. The only catalog you'll probably ever see is a parts catalog. The problem is that the product line changes so quickly now that by the time the catalog gets printed and distributed half the stuff in it is no longer in stores. Sorry for the bad news.
