I first saw that the v710 was going to have an SD-compatible slot, so I picked up a 256 on sale.

Then I see on PhoneScoop that it's a "Trans Flash" card. What the heck!

The Transflash is backward compatible with SD (with adapt...

TransFlash is 1/4 the size of SD - it's really tiny. There will be an adapter that will let you put a TransFlash card into an SD slot, but due to the size difference, there's no way it could ever work the other way around.

Yes, and in addition I dont the major retailers are even selling transflash yet. Its too bad they don't just use regular SD or MMC. At least then I could use the memory card from my mp3 player.

Yeah, I was suprised too that they didn't just use the normal SD card. They did with the Motorola MPx200, which is a VERY popular phone. Sounds though like the trans-flash may become an industry standard for phones and that it's being launched with the V710.

I presume you two aren't complaining about the size of the 710? If they used SD cards, the phone would have to be bigger.

No, I'm not complaining (although I DO have three SD cards).

You sure the V710 would have to be bigger? It's already bigger than the V600 (which I trial used for 28 days) which was bigger than my friends MPx200 (which DOES use the SC cards). I thought I saw pictures which showed the 710 bigger then the V600, which again is bigger then the MPx200, so I do not see why the V710 would have to be bigger if it used the SD rather than the trans-flash. I would not be surprised if they could have engineered it in the existing chassis. Still, it looks like the trans-flas...
