Verizon currently offers AIM/MSN/Yahoo through Get It Now, so yes this phone would have IM capabilites, just not built in (you have to download it).

There is instant messenger application on Get It Now for phones with BREW 2.0 like the LG VX6000. This should be available for the V710. The T720 had BREW 1.1 so it is not available from Get It Now on the T720. If you know someone who has an LG VX6000 or any other phone with BREW 2.0, they can get the instant messenger application for free so that you can see it. Verizon makes their money by charging you for using the application (not downloading it). I not sure if each IM was charged as a text message or you get charged air time while you're using it.
