V710 - T720 Same Difference

I said this 5 pages back and I'll say it again, the 710 is the 720 with a camera. Everyone in VZW corporate thats testing the phone says the same damn thing, its a Motorola POS. Its a damn shame too cause the phone looked promising. And by the way, VZWSales, if the phone comes out on the 6th, I'll donate my left nut to science, cause it aint happening, but keep telling your tall tales, there plenty of suckers listening.

I agree with you about the phone not coming out on the 6th. I think a lot of people on here have been deluding themselves about that.

But I gotta disagree about the 710 being the same as a 720 with a camera. They couldn't be more different:

- Low resolution inner display
- Monochrome outer display
- No speakerphone
- No camera
- No video
- No bluetooth
- No removable memory
- No MP3 playback
- No picture ID

Lets wait until the thing comes out before we trash it. The two Motorola's I've owned in the past have NEVER had any problems (StarTac and my current v60i). I will rely on my own experience with the phone in making my decision. I don't really care about anybody's opi

Yep and people need to learn that the T is not a high-end model of the Motorola product line. I consider any T models as the Timeport series and any V as the Vulcan/Vader series. I think that regardless what anyone says, we should just try the phone ourselves when it comes out and then be our own judge. Reviews by others have meant nothing. Reviews always makes a product sound better or sound worst than it really is. The only one who can truly review a product is our own selves as we as individuals are the ones who have to deal with the phone after we buy it, not anyone else. So reviews from others are just like opinions. What others think is trash, we may think of it as gold. Just like what we think of as gold, others may think of i...

Same here, Star-Tac, V60, V60c, T720(GSM) T730(CDMA) no problems and all work well. Moto invented these things and make a great phone. 😁

With me... MicroTAC Elite Analog (perfect), StarTAC 8000 Analog (Phone powering off by itself - sent to Motorola and they made the phone flooded with some kind of oil. So sent it in a second time and the battery contacts with the piggy back battery are now missing while the phone still works with the same problem. Had to use GTE Wireless's insurance for a claim and the technician just said I dropped it and I got a new StarTAC 8500 which still works today), StarTAC 7760 CDMA, StarTAC 7868W CDMA, V8160, V60C, V60C(i) and they are all good..

My DPC550, MicroTac, StarTacs, V8160 and V60's were great phones. My T720 was not. That is one bad phone out of eight (although, admittedly, the 720 was a REAL BAD phone). I suspect that every phone manufacturer has released a stinker or two...

I never had a DPC550 since I'm only 30 now but back in 1989 - I did have the Mitsubitshi 800 Transportable phone which I was testing for both CellularOne (60% owned by PacTel/PacBell now known as AirTouch) and GTE Wireless. My first phone which I actually bought was the Motorola MicroTAC Elite Analog. I think the thing is that any phone made before 2001 or so was made by Motorola in the US. Any Motorola phone made after that was outsourced which does include the v60. So it has more to do with quality control and Motorola phones even the high-end models are cheap these days compared to what the StarTAC 8500 costed which was close to $1000 and the Black edition even costed more than that. I thought the T series was more of a lower end mod...

I remember when my cousin bought a Star Tac when it first came out. Spent over $1000 for it but damn was it cool! That DPC550 was a pretty big phone, especially with the standard (non-slim) battery. When I switched to the MicroTAC I thought that it was incredible how small they had made the phone. Now people are complaining about the size of the V710 "brick"! LOL.

Yeah, the StarTAC did look cool when it came out. So did the Vader and the v60 series. The DPC550 was like the handheld phone before MicroTAC line which had another 550 then there was one model above it and the Elite was the high-end. I guess if the V710 is bigger than the StarTAC, then it is big. LOL

And you're right that no company is perfect. It has to do with price. At one price point, one company will be better than another and then at another price point, another manufacturer may have a better product. Even BMW's have lots of flaws. They have excellent engineering in performance but then they have quality control issues compared to Lexus. Motorola though will probably handle drops and other things better than other companies. I've dropped my v60c and StarTAC a few dozen times and not even one scratch.
