Bluetooth Transflash File Transfer?

gr8hifi

I have heard that the phone does not support OBEX, i am a little lazy to try to figure out what that means, but, from what I have gathered, it means that the phone CANT transfer ringers and pictures to/from the phone. Does this same limitation extend to transferring files to/from the transflash slot? Will the additional purchase of a memory card reader be required?

Thanks agian for the GR8 info!

Transflash won't appear on the phone's file structure. If you want to transfer anything to the transflash you'll need the usb adapter that will appear on your computer as a removable storage drive then you can upload and delete things.

My guess is that the same limitation will extend to transferring files to/from the transflash card slot because Verizon wants you to use GetItNow to purchase ringers, wallpapers, games, etc. Obviously there's nothing to prevent you from putting files on the transflash card using your compu...

So that when VZW claims its customers aren't really demanding Bluetooth (as has been reported), what they really MEAN is that giving full Bluetooth compatibility to its customers would cut into VZW's ridiculously overpriced GetItNow revenue stream. 😛

Yep, they're making quite a bit of money from Get It Now and they're not going put out a phone that allows you to easily get around it. Here's a page from 6/11/04 with some "Get It Now" statistics.

Here's the important quote from that article.

No you don't need to purchase an additional memory card reader if your current read will read SD cards. There will be an adapter available so that the TransFlash cards will be fit in an SD card slot. You can read this on this press release from SanDisk.

No OBEX profile only means that the phone cannot transfer files via Bluetooth. It's not something "crippled" by Motorola or Verizon, it's simply a profile they didn't add. Very few Bluetooth devices support all profiles.

OBEX has nothing to do with the TransFlash slot.

The TransFlash card is like any other memory card format; it certainly contains files (that's the whole point) and the cards can be read and written by other devices, including your PC.

Sure. I originally said "mid-2004", which in this case meant June/July. June is over, so...

But also, I spoke with a Moto spokesperson, who confirmed that a July release is still planned.

But, as usual, there could always be more last-minute delays. Delays are the norm in this industry, especially with Verizon. Since the
original target was June, if it's released in July, it will be one of the least-delayed (most on-time) phone releases ever for Verizon.

It's somewhat amusing to read this forum, because, as these things go, it's hardly delayed at all.
