According to this article 40,000 consumer have registered @ the Motorola web site with an interest in the V710.

Guilty as charged (for registering twice, not for being a joker) - I registered two verizon phones because I was travelling way back when this phone was initially thought to be released, and I wasn't sure which phone I was going to be carrying.

Then again, if this phone is released and is as good as folks seem to hope, I might just buy one for each line, so I guess that would make my two registrations legit!

I'm sure Motorola has a good handle on the dropoff rate of "registrations for free stuff" vs. "people that actually buy things". It's massive. 40K people could easily turn out to be a few hundred solid leads at most. They'll probably be relying on their advertising and word of mouth to bring in the real numbers. It seems like that entire article was written from information in this forum. There was absolutely nothing new or informative in there, outside of the 40,000 registrations.

Looks like the author just read this forum, called his local retailer (like a lot of people from this forum), and then came up with some conjectures (like everyone on this forum).

Now I remember why I wanted to go into journalism when I was in high school... it requires almost no work, and everyone believes that what you say is somehow more important and/or reliable than what anyone else says.
