Motorola Earnings Release

Motorola is scheduled for an earnings call next Tuesday, July 20. It would make sense that they would either announce that the phone is available on that call or at the least give a solid date. Given the importance of the v710/Verizon for the company I would be surprised if they didn't speak to the issue - and I don't think the analysts would let them ignore it.

I would be surprised if it did come up. GSM is obviously Motorola's business focus when it comes to wireless phones, not CDMA. If I were a Motorola stock holder, I would be upset to hear them spending much time on an EARNINGS conference call about one single product (out of a product line of how many hundreds, if not thousands?) that isn't part of their main business model.

If any mention is made of the V710, I would expect it to be in the context of "We're working to increase our business with the nation's largest wireless provider, by offering unique products such as th V710." But to hear them focus on one single product for more than about 2 seconds would be not only surprising, but probably upsetting to some stockholders.

I agree to a point. But moto is getting some negative press on this, see link below

The article quotes those infamous analysts as saying failure to deliver a phone with the v710 features could affect financial results. We will see..

Moto doesn't deserve any negative press. The phones are shipped and ready and just waiting on Verizon to do something with them.

...it mentions this forum. 😁

It's a pretty fair and balanced article, too, with a good summary of the V710 status, and also its importance to Motorola.

"New Jersey-based Verizon carries just one Motorola phone, featuring an antiquated black-and-white display, at a time when customers are trading up to handsets with color displays and cameras."

This isn't exctly true for two reasons. First, the Motorola v60s and v60p and two different phones (even though they are really the same). Second, even though Verizon only offers the v60 online, my local VZW store still sells the c343 (not sure if thats the right model number). Even worse, I walked into my local radio shack and they still sell the moto. v120e and the black and white version of the c343 (the c232 maybe? i dunno).

We seem to be on the same page, but I think most analysts would agree that the main concern is in regards to the larger issue that Motorola is missing out on business with the nation's largest wireless provider, more than the perceived delay in one particular product.

Actually, it's not uncommon for analysts to focus on specific "key" products. Back when everyone was waiting for the V600, that phone came up frequently in the conference calls with investors and analysts.

The V710 is a very key product for Moto. It's their most ambitious product to date, and it's the cornerstone of a huge new push with CDMA, and with Verizon specifically.

I have a question for you Rich Brome since you own this site and run it... we all noticed that the release date of the v710 in the info section changed from Mid 2004 to July 2004 ... why did you change that ... where did you get the information to be so sure it will come out this month... do you know the date?
