Provider(s): Verizon Re: Motorola V710 release date?

--------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------

Another update. Motorola has provided a software change that Verizon requested. This hopefully last version will be tested for a few days. If all goes well, final approval will be Friday or Monday. Verizon has already received 7000+ phones, all of which will have to be opened up and reflashed at a considerable cost of time and money. The stock sitting in Moto's war...

If you are not VXW or Moto, then how do you come about this information? Do you have a crystal ball? Do you posses the powers of ESP? Inquiring minds want to know.

This sounds like GOOD news to me, however... I'm always weary when people end their post with something like "this is always subject to change." Although we all know that any info is subject to change, it seems that people on these forums like to put that disclaimer on made up information so that they can't be called out later.

That being said... this does appear to be well-informed information. The whole reflashing part doesn't make much sense to me though. It would seem to make more sense to me just to reflash them in the store as they are sold. Once the phones are fully packaged and shipped, it is a fairly major undertaking to open them, reflash them, and repackage them. Outside of the time, labor, and money aspects of it, a legal...

One problem with trying to flash the phone in the store is that not every store is equipped to perform flash upgrades on 710s. So what does VZW do in that case? Do they only ship the 710 to stores that are equipped to flash the phones?

Another problem is it takes 10-15 minutes to flash the phone. I don't know about your area, but in San Diego, you go to any VZW corporate store on a Saturday, and there's a 20-30 minute wait just to talk to a sales rep. Now imagine how much longer the wait time will be when people are buying the 710, but have to wait for it to be upgraded before they can take it home.

Outside of the time, labor, and money aspects of it, a legal question would arise as to whether you could still sell the ph

I'm an exclusive agent for Verizon. I don't know if you guys knew or cared anything about the Audiovox 8900, but it had the same issue before it's planned release date of x-mas last year. We actually received the first shipment then immediately after a bulletin on how to manually change the settings so the picture messaging would work at the time of sale. The "fix" did not take care of the problem so we had to ship the phones back to be re-flashed and we did not receive the phones again for sale for another month. I think they were rushed out too soon for the x-mas shopping season as the only camera phone we had was the LG 6000 (one of the best phones ever) which had already been out for 6 months. The 8900 is and will always be a big "t...

I've had the 8900 for 16 days now (I tried to wait for the 710) and I have no problems with it what so ever. So I guess my "turd" don't stink.
Albeit the picture quality is sort of poor, it is supposed to be a cell phone not a digital camera to take pictures of a wedding.

Give it time, your "turd" will start to stink. 🤣 You may get lucky with yours. I just know the odds from my sales experience. The only reason I sell 8900 is because I can make a little more $$ than the LG 6000 which is a more reliable phone. I get complaints all the time that the battery won't charge and the phone gets hot when used. I've had them bad straight out of the box and had to change the phone before the customer left the store or they come back 15 minutes later. Good thing you have a 12 month warranty. Verizon is really good about taking care of customers on phone issues.

P.S. I would not even consider the 9900 you guys if it even comes out.

I believe the 9900 is made by Toshiba, not the same manufacturer as the 8000 series. Given the reviews of the 9950 from Sprint, basically the same model as the 9900, it sounds like the 9900 would be a pretty good phone to me.
