OK, I consider myself a relatively smart guy, but I do not see how that Hot Sheet will work. By midnight won't it get buried on another page and slowly move way out of sight?

I'm probably missing something.

That's just one thing that confuses me on this. There are others but I'll leave it to someone else to likely post the same questions.

Great idea though! (if it can really work)

OK...read the Hot Sheet rules a few more times and I think I know what you mean now. Next question, what does "subscribe to this thread" do? Does one who clicks that then get emails to their home account when something new is posted in that thread?

Bingo! That's exactly what it does. You will get an email when there is a new post. Your email will have a link to that post, which should contain a link to the new, relevent post.

As far as finding the original hot sheet post (so you can post a reply), it might get a bit hard over the next hour, when a zillion more posts are up, and it's 14 pages back.

I thought of putting a key, "searchword" into the post, but only right after I...

This will never work, because you don't havea way to send emails to people sporatically, and you don't have the ability to use sticky posts, which stay at the top of the forum, like on HoFo.
