if you're curious.......

if you go to the info of the v710 on phonescoop, they have the FCC ID of the phone. well, if you click on it, it will take you to the FCC database and list the paperwork, that comes up with the phone.

whats interesting is, if you go to the end and look at the "Application Purpose" you will see the changes Motorola had to make to the original product. and you will notice they were done on the 29th of june. now you can actually go read these, but if you dont know alot about electrical engineering, mosat of it will sound like a foreign language.

just thought i'd throw that out there...

This is interesting indeed.

I'm really wondering if and how the dates for the FCC info relate to the planned/actual release date. I checked out the FCC info for the V810 and the last entry there was April 20, 2004 and that phone still hasn't been released. 🙄

It would be great if someone in this forum can provide some info regarding the FCC dates and what they could potentially mean to us folks waiting for these phones. 🙂

Most of the docs don't open for me - bummer. One doc is called "Summary of FCC request for additional information".

From the FCC:
"A Class II permissive change includes those modifications which
degrade the performance characteristics as reported to the Commission at
the time of the initial certification. Such degraded performance must
still meet the minimum requirements of the applicable rules. When a
Class II permissive change is made by the grantee, the grantee...

The 6/29/04 filings were for use with an extended life battery. This has been discussed earlier here and at HoFo. The original unit HAS been approved, otherwise it would not be listed as such on this site. I'm not sure if it has been approved for use with this new larger capacity battery.
The new battery has almost twice the capacity of the original (I believe I read either 1400 or 1500ma compared to 800ma on the original.) This would resolve battery life issues brought up by various testers.
VSW MAY be waiting for this approval, even if they don't plan on offering the bigger battery as standard equipment.
