The Moto Bluetooth Contest

FireStryke

Jul 19, 2004, 6:16 PM
The fact that Moto hasn't updated the expiration date on the contest rules is completely, totally, 100% meaningless. August 2 may roll around, and the contest rules may still say "Ends August 1." Until the contest actually starts (when the phone comes out) the end date is meaningless.

If they had changed it again, you MIGHT be able to read something (like additional delays) into that, but no change is no news.

There is no reason whatsoever that Moto can't change the end date of the contest 5 minutes before the phone goes on sale. Therefore, there's no reason whatsoever to read anything at all into the fact that it has not changed.

And frankly those 3 hours may be enough (to close out all 710 free accessories) if this, HoFo and Wireless Advisor are any indication of the sheer number of people waiting for this phone.

What makes you think that the registration page will be up as sonn as the phone is made available?

The MOTO web site simply says that they will email you when the registration is open (they say nothing about emailing you when the phone is released).

I bet they make registration begin several DAYS after the phone is purchased by the first few lucky people (wherever they are).

EXACTLY! ... It's good to know there are still SOME brains working on these forums.

Because of time zone differences and other factors, it would be in Motorola's best interest to NOT make the registration available immediately when the phone is available. Let's say the phone is released on a Tuesday, look for the registration page to be activated the following Thursday or Friday (hell, it could even slip to the following week). And when they do open registration, expect it to be in the middle of the day (between 9:00AM and 1:00PM Pacific) which will give the broadest range of people the fairest chance to be notified and register.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult your intelligence. I was not trying to single any one person out, I was talking to the community as a whole. You just managed to get the brunt of my displeasure in all the speculating and people not realizing the legal ramifications that Motorola has to consider when it comes to a contest.

if you go to the registration paqe, in the bottom corner is the privacy and policy details. if you read them closely, you will see where it states:

If, for any reason, this promotion is not capable of running as planned, including without limitation, infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Motorola, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, Motorola reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion.

That's not relevant as we are refering to known delays. Such as the delays speculated about in this forum and known long before the promotion end date. This allows time for MOTO to update their site as needed.

I agree that the current promotion end date means nothing. However a change in the date does! My point was that, a change in the promotion date would be a more reliable indication of a delayed release than the baseless speculations which seem to haunt this forum.

I also believe that MOTO would not leave the date as is knowing full well that the project is weeks behind schedule, as that would not be in their best interest (business-, integrity-, trust-wise). They will simply change it as they did before.

I do agree, however, that a change could happen 5 mins. before the current end date. IF/When it does, that would be significant!

As I have said before, if the people in this forum know the release has been delayed, surely VZW/M...

We seem to agree. As I said, if a change did occur, it MIGHT mean something. No change means nothing.

VZW is very aware of this page, they would not in any way jeopardize any bit of info to anyone "including us"! So sit back and stop trying to "hack". But, call your local VZW store everyday until they freak out and tell you what they dont know just to shut you the heck up. OR You could wait and see what happens this week like everyone on this forum is thinking, I saw monday thru friday this week. So chill! But I want it too! So I'm a hypocrite.
