now that the phone atleast has a release date down to the month, can anyone tell me if the phone has picture id on the external display???

I've read yes and no to this question on this board. Not sure which to believe. Gut feeling is no (considering the size of the external display).
I'm happy with text "caller ID" on the external display. I'd even think it would be easier with text.

If I had to guess (and don't jump all over me for guessing) I would say that this phone has picture caller ID with text overlay. That seems to be the trend and Moto is not leaving anything out on this one.

Ive read yes from people that have the phone (oh howard forums)
and about the size of the external display, it is bigger than any other phones that is out now...and they have external picture caller ID, so why 'couldnt' this one? 🙂

You guys have to be kidding me. where the hell have you guys been? The answer is in the info section on this site. it has even been discussed. YES there is picture ID. And supposedly doesn't work well due to the low pixel count of the external display. It's probably the same pixel density as the main display.
