Unfortunately you will pay the taxes on the full retail cost of the phone. It applies in any of the levels where you purchase the phone. Sorry... Have a good day 🙂
That's not always true, I am a sales rep and at my store we apply all contract discounts before calculating sales tax, so you only pay tax for what you pay for the phone.

Well, that's not true, at least not always. I paid $149.99 in March for a Motorola v600 and the tax was $12.75. (8.5%)

I'm getting mixed answers. I personally had to pay tax on the full price. Is it different for every store? Let's hear some Phone customer service rep perspectives.

Thus, Verizon Wireless passes that tax to the consumers.
So if you are a California resident and purchase a phone through vzw... You will be paying taxes on the full retail price of phone, regardless of how much the company discounts it. Ie... you might recieve a phone for 0.00 but you WILL still be required to pay taxes on the full retail price.
There are no regulations like this in any other western state. California is the only state that Verizon Wireless charges consumer's full retail tax.
