RS vs Verizon to buy....

I'm going to switch from ATT to Verizon once the V710 comes out and from reading this board I don't understand why people would buy it at Radio Shack. Am I missing something?
At the Verizon store you get $100 off a new phone in two years, and for signing a contract the v710 will be about $250. At Radio shack you pay about $500 for the phone and that's it? I don't know much about cell phones but I know a lot about shopping and paying double doesn't make sense to me. Can someone tell me what I am missing. Thanks!

At VZW or RS the price is 319 for a 2 yr contract minus a 70 rebate, The NE2 is after completing 2 yrs you get 100 off your next phone providing you sign a new 2 year agreement with VZW only. The 519 price is if you buy the phone without a contract.

So the difference is RS doesn't have the NE2 and more service problems.

The difference is Radio Shack is a retailer, has its own policies and prices, and the sales associates there tend to know more about the products (usually) than most vzw or even sprint employees.

I would recommend VZW as well. They operate under different warranty guidelines. For example, I had a problem with my T720 which was under warranty and took it to a VZW store and they took a look at it and just swaped the phone for me right there with no problem. Also, after the phone is out of warranty, and god forbid something else goes wrong with the phone, $50 will get you a replacement phone, the same model at VZW. I was going to do that with my current phone, until I found out v710 was coming out and I qualified for NE2 Aug. 2.

Overall, it's more hassle free as the person before said. However, I do encourage everyone to call teh local VZW Store or Customer Service and give them &%*$( for letting Radio Shack sell the phone first. T...

no the retail for the phone IS 519 w/o contract @ radioshack. at VZW it might be 450 or 499.

YES YOU CAN GET NEW EVERYTWO IF YOU GO THE ORIGIANL PHONE AT RS. You can't get the new phone at RS.

And to the guy who said that vzw will swap a phone out for 50 bucks didn''t mention that you have to have insurance on the phone that is not through VZW it is a 3rd party. This insurance is also available at RS. 3.99 a month $50 deductable.

The key to buying cellular is to either know the guy selling you a phone OR do your homework so you can't get screwed.

Personally my store has never had issues with phantom billing or service problems. The one time we did it was COOS (credit order operations support)fault.

The $50 did not require me to have insurance. It was a $50 replacement, if I had the insurance I would not have had to pay anything. I made sure to ask whether insurance was needed or not, and they said no. So, I am not sure, but VZW was the store in NJ and they were going to replace my phone for $50. While the phone was under its regular warranty, it didn't cost me anything. I never paid for anytime of insurance or extended warranty. Just wanted to clarify for the basis of the board.

I don't think that's actually true. It would be VERY expensive (if you could even get it) to buy insurance with no deductible. Most cell phone insurance plans have a $50 deductible which the consumer must pay. Then the insurance covers the remainder of the cost of a replacement phone.
