Nobody is getting a V710 from RS
Sure enough, everything the people told me at 1-800-464-5365 was wrong about my order. Although my order shows as being shipped overnight freight, it never went through. And nobody's V710 will. There was a glitch in the system that they are working to resolve but in the meantime I was told to go back to Radio Shack, speak with the store manager to have him locate a phone for me and to get my $ refunded.
GRRRRRRR! Time to switch to AT&T and get the V600!
Thanks a lot Verizon & RS!

The manager of the Shack I dealt with said that he had 710's shipped Tuesday for two-day FedEx, arriving Thursday. He told me to come in and they would return a due-bill on the Direct2U order and use that to pay for the 710. His research indicated that due to contractual reasons, the phone must be sold over-the-counter.

I'm going in now and unless the manager tells me something like that, I'm gonna cancel my service with Verizon since I live in DC and the GSM coverage here is great.
I really think they should honor our orders though, but thats just me and I really wanted this damn phone. Meanwhile my boyfriend thinks its funny as hell that this happened to me so he won't shut up about it...but oh look...here goes his V600 into my bubble bath...OOPS!

I would have switched to GSM a long time ago if the coverage was good here in NYC and in Long Island, which is where I'm located most of the time.
If you have great GSM coverage in your area I see no reason not to switch over to GSM, as for me, in the meantime, I'll have to stick with Verizon CDMA that's currently providing great coverage for me. As soon as GSM catches up on coverage, if they ever due, I might switch, who knows.

I can understand the frustration of having to deal with Radio Shack -- anytime I've dealt with them I wish I hadn't, like going out in Tiajuana and drinking plenty of water between shots of homemade tequila -- but switching to AT&T won't be an upgrade, it will be a step back. Let's put it this way: if you think Verizon's bumbled handling of this whole process is bad, consider how much worse it could have been (try exponentially) if this process was left to Verizon landline customer service...
Another week or ten days and this aggravation will be behind us, until we all await the Next Big Thing from Motorola/Verizon Wireless 😉

Too late, the next big wait is already here - the V3 or whatever that slim phone is called 😁
